NFTE / Network Solutions Web Site Challenge
Official Entry Rules
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER THIS CONTEST. However, participation in the Web Site Challenge is limited ONLY to current students and past alumni of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) educational program. To be considered a current NFTE student you must: (i) be taught by a NFTE Certified Entrepreneurship Teacher; (ii) use the NFTE curriculum; and (iii) be working towards a business plan. To be considered a NFTE alumnus you must have been taught by an NFTE certified teacher and completed the NFTE curriculum prior to the Spring 2008 semester.
1. Eligibility. The first 200 NFTE students and alumni who register to participate in the Network Solutions Web Site Challenge during the online registration period will be provided the online tools that will enable them to create their own Web site for judging. The Web Site Challenge participation will be considered closed once 200 qualified NFTE students and alumni have registered or the closing date and time of December 17, 2008 by 11:59 pm EST, have been reached, whichever has come first.
2. How to Enter. To register and participate, students must submit the following information online at http://www.networksolutionssuccess.com/contest/:
- First and Last Name
- NFTE School
- Year of participation of NFTE Course
- NFTE Teacher
- Student’s E-mail Address
- Parent’s consent and information if under 18 years of age.
NOTE: if you are under the age of 18 you will need to have your parent’s consent to participate in the Web Site Challenge.
The competition will commence and be promoted beginning November 17, 2008 in conjunction with Entrepreneurship Week, November 17-21, 2008. All registrations must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on December 17, 2008. THE SOONER A PARTICIPANT REGISTERS; THE SOONER HE OR SHE MAY BEGIN DESIGNING A WEB SITE FOR THE COMPETITION.
NFTE will have until the end of the next business day to verify the students’ qualification as a NFTE participant or alumni. Applicants who do not qualify will be notified promptly by email by NFTE.
3. Commencement of the Web Site Challenge. Once participants are qualified by NFTE, each will receive a Network Solutions account login and password from NFTE that will give them access to a free Network Solutions Web site starter site package for use during the competition ONLY (See Rule #5 below). The Web site starter site package will include a Web site builder tool to use to create a business Web site. Upon receipt of the account login and password from NFTE, participants can begin creating their Web site. The Web sites created will operate on a Network Solutions platform and will not be published or available for viewing by others on the Internet. All participants are strongly encouraged to change their passwords for security reasons. Participants may only use the Web site building tools offered in the Network Solutions Web site starter package. Any use of other Web site building tools will automatically disqualify a participant. The Web site must be hosted and built using Network Solutions Web site starter site package, designed between November 17, 2008 and January 31, 2009, 11:59 p.m. EST. All Web sites must be created solely by the student or alumni participants without assistance from any outside Web site developers. Participants, may, however, contact Network Solutions Customer Support for assistance in using the standard Web hosting package.
All Web sites must be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on January 31, 2009. NFTE will send all participants an e-mail with a submission form two weeks prior to January 31, 2009, which must be completed and submitted to the judging committee no later than January 31, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. EST. All submission forms must include the following information:
- First and Last Name
- E-mail Address
- NFTE Teacher
- Name of business
- A narrative description of business (no more than 250 words), including goal of business (e.g., sell products, offer a service, promotional, etc)
- An outline of the goals objectives for the Web site (250 words or less)
Changes made to any sites after the January 31, 2009, 11:59 p.m. EST deadline will not be judged and may disqualify the participant. Forms submitted after January 31, 2009, at 11:59 p.m. EST will not be considered.
Submission forms that are lost, late, misdirected, garbled, or incompletely received for any reason, including by reason of hardware, software, browser or network failure, malfunction, congestion or incompatibility at Network Solutions' server or elsewhere, will not be eligible for judging.
4. Judging. Network Solutions/NFTE judging panel will choose the best Web sites according to criteria set by NFTE and Network Solutions including:
- Overall Aesthetic Appearance of the Web site
- Achievement of Business goals with the Web site (e.g., is selling product or service, there is a clear means of making a purchase or contacting the business owner to inquire about services)
- Achievement of the Web site goals and objectives
- Use of Web site builder Tools provided
- Business Information, including market definition and services provided
All decisions of the judges are final and binding in all respects. Participants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the judges.
Judges will select top ten Web sites by March 6, 2009, and NFTE will notify winners by March 20, 2009. Network Solutions and NFTE will promote the winners of the contest at that time as well.
5. Deactivation of Web Sites. All Web sites submitted for judging will be deactivated within 60 days from the announcement of the winners unless the participants purchase a Web site starter site package from Network Solutions. To do this, the participants will need to contact NFTE within 60 days of the announcement and let them know they would like to purchase their Web site starter site package at a discounted rate of 50%.
6. Designation and Award of Prizes. The Grand Prize Winner will be the participant that wins the Web Site Challenge. The Grand Prize is $500 cash and a coupon for an annual Web site starter site package valued at $119.40 so they can publish their Web site. Nine Finalist Prizes shall also be awarded to nine “runners up.” The Finalist Prizes shall be a Network Solutions Web site starter site package for one year valued at $119.40 per package. Prizes are not transferable nor may be substituted.
GENERAL RULES
Employees or immediate family members of employees of NFTE and Network Solutions ("Sponsors") are not eligible to participate in the Web Site Challenge. Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail by NFTE. If potential winners cannot be contacted, do not respond within five (5) days, or the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such potential winners forfeit all rights to any prize and alternative winners may be selected. Sponsors, at their sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of the Web site or otherwise in violation of the rules. Use of bots or other automated processes to enter is prohibited and may result in disqualification at the sole discretion of Sponsors. Sponsors further reserve the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Web Site Challenge if there are any computer viruses, bugs, tampering, or unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort. Any violation of these rules may result in disqualification. Except where prohibited, acceptance of prize constitutes consent to use winners' names and likenesses and winning entry for editorial, advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation. Potential winners may be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability/Publicity release, which must be returned within fourteen (14) days from date of notification or an alternate winner may be chosen. The competition is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. VOID where prohibited by law. VOID where restricted. Income and other taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winners.
By registering to participate, each participant agrees to release, discharge, and hold harmless the Sponsors, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, internet sites, any print and other media used to promote the Web Site Challenge and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from and against any and all liability or damages associated with participation in the Web Site Challenge, acceptance of a prize or use of any pictures by Sponsors.
For a list of winners' names, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to NFTE/Network Solutions Web Site Challenge, c/o NFTE, 120 Wall Street, 29th Floor, New York, NY 10005, after March 20, 2009, but before June 1, 2009.
